Lakes & ponds conservation
Moor Green Lakes
The network of lakes at Moor Green were designed and restored for a nature reserve with birds as a high priority. Waterside trees are cut to prevent woodland establishing and surrounding grassland is grazed creating ideal condition for grazing geese and Wigeon.
Lakeside Nature Reserve
The ponds at Lakeside Nature Reserve were created to be shallow and warm and are kept fish free to benefit invertebrates, they are intensively managed to prevent trees and shrubs creating too much shade.
Bat boxes have been erected at four sites in the Valley where mature trees with natural holes are scarce.
